KPI Tracking Case Study | EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

This U.S. retail company needed better visibility of its IT assets to manage spending more effectively. Unbudgeted costs from audits made it difficult for the ITAM team to demonstrate their true value. They needed accurate data to control IT spend and report on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) valued by business leaders.

 As a result, Anglepoint began to track KPIs for the client’s ITAM team to share the program wins. Each quarter, Anglepoint provides KPI updates that track IT savings, which have amounted to over $30M since 2019.

The Challenge

This client’s ITAM team struggled to show their value companywide. They were unable to report at an executive level on KPI tracking that demonstrate an effective IT Asset Management program.

This meant the leadership team did not fully understand the value the ITAM team brings to the organization. As a relatively new team, ITAM didn’t have the expertise that could be applied to gain visibility of the accurate asset data they needed. This left them facing the risk of audits and unbudgeted IT spend.

After yet another software audit landed, they decided they needed to take control and become more proactive through implementing a robust ITAM program. They needed Anglepoint to help them design and build the ITAM framework with a clear focus on defining KPIs to drive optimization.

The Solution

Anglepoint began by building the Quarterly Service Review (QSR) Executive Reporting. This reporting provides a view of the value ITAM brings to the business. Anglepoint worked with the client to determine which KPIs would need to be measured and reported to drive results, helping them achieve the goals outlined in the organization’s North Star Metrics.

The QSR is based on what has been achieved each quarter and tracks this with measurable, repeatable, and sustainable data. This has included targets such as total discovery of tooling, installations, entitlements, risk remediation, and cost avoidance.

Throughout the process, Anglepoint educated the ITAM team on presenting metrics that resonate with the executive team, ultimately showcasing the value delivered.

RESULTS

The KPI dashboard Anglepoint’s Client Success Manager created for the organization highlights the impact Anglepoint, in partnership with the client’s ITAM team, has made on the organization.

These KPI tracking views give the client’s ITAM team and executives visibility into cost savings achieved, risk mitigated, and optimized spend as a result of identifying and remediating risk.

The dashboard, now providing quarterly updates to executives, outlines the value of ITAM at the organization and Anglepoint as their SAM managed service providers.

The ITAM team struggled to show their value company-wide and to report at an executive level on KPIs that demonstrated a good ITAM program.
