Oracle Certification and ULA Management Case Study

(March 2021)

See how we helped a large oil and gas company identify $2.5M of license compliance exposure.

The Challenge

A large oil and energy company had a ULA that had expired, and they were not in a position to certify their counts to Oracle. In addition, the support on their contract had been dropped. The company had previously gone through some organizational changes resulting in multiple ownership changes in regards to who was managing their ULA leaving the company with no directions on next steps. They required subject matter experts to assist them with their certification process.

The Solution

We evaluated their contracts in order to come up with a comprehensive entitlement position and to understand their reporting requirements. We processed their data to come up with an ELP that could be used to certify their usage. As a result of this ELP, combined with the entitlements, we were able to identify products that were owned but not in use that support could be potentially dropped on. (As they were migrating to cloud products, they were not terminating the old licenses).

The Results

Anglepoint provided the company with an entitlement report, usage analysis, ELP, and certification letter. We were also able to identify 34 products that the company was eligible to drop support on. We also identified $2.5M of license compliance exposure due to under-licensed products of products that were not on the ULA (DB options).
